Mar Del Plata, Argentina

Mar Del Plata, beach front city, southeastern Buenos Aires provincia (area), east-focal Argentina. It is situated on the Atlantic Ocean drift around 230 miles (370 km) south-southeast of Buenos Aires city.

Juan de Garay, the second originator of Buenos Aires, initially investigated the beach front range of Mar del Plata in 1581. In 1746 Father Thomas Falkner and Father José Cardiel established the Indian work mission Nuestra Señora del Pilar ("Our Lady of Pilar") at the site of the present-day city.
